April Book Club: Baby Sign Language (and a potluck)!

Spring is here, and that means it's almost time for our April Book Club!

This month, we will be diving into the topic of baby Sign Language. This communication tool not only strengthens the bond between parents and their babies, but it can also ease a few parenting frustrations. Come enjoy delicious food, adult conversations, and learn how Baby Sign Language can benefit both you and your little one.

The Importance of Early Communication

Baby Sign Language is a simple but profound way to boost early communication. Studies indicate that infants can grasp and express their feelings up to 6 to 12 months before they can speak. They have things they want to say and share, but no way to do so...and that leaves everyone feeling frustrated. This is where signing can be a huge help! For instance, by introducing just three fundamental signs like "more," "all done," and "milk," you can make everyday interactions smoother.

We will discuss our favorite signs to teach at different growth stages, and help YOU create a list of specific signs for your family.

Not sure how how to add yet another thing without feeling overwhelmed? We’ll provide strategies to incorporate baby Sign Language right into your normal routines—from grocery shopping to bath time!

Intertwining signs into activities is simple. You can use them while reading outloud, doing normal activities around baby (like cooking or cleaning), or playing. We can even practice some during our session!

Building a Supportive Community, One Book Club At a Time

What we love most about our mom’s book club is the community that is being created. Every women who comes through the door is navigating the crucial phases of pregnancy and postpartum, which can feel very isolating and challenging. Finding a supportive network is VITAL, and that is ultimately why we host these meetings. Sometimes we just need a LOW KEY opportunity to meet and get to know other moms.

This April, we are melding book club with another important facet of life-FOOD!

Food brings us together beyond spoken language. So what better way to do that than have a potluck? We encourage you to bring a dish that has personal significance for you—a family recipe or comfort food that makes your parenting journey a bit sweeter. If that sounds daunting, please just bring a bag of pretzals or your favorite beverage. No need to feel stressed!

Let's get together, share good food, and learn from one another.

No matter if you’re experienced in parenting (or baby sign language) or just starting, your insights are welcomed and needed in our discussion.
